How to Get Started with Undrstnd
You’ve just installed Undrstnd — now it’s time to make the most of it. Here’s how to master the basics, stay in flow, and turn every moment of curiosity into understanding.
Welcome to UNDRSTND — the new standard for online reading.
You’ve just installed the extension, and this guide will help you start strong.
UNDRSTND was designed to make reading online feel natural again. It helps you understand what you’re reading in context, without losing focus or switching tabs. Think of it as a way to stay curious while staying in flow.
Once installed, you’ll see the UNDRSTND icon of the bottom right of your browser. Take a look!
From now on, UNDRSTND will be there to help you make sense of what you are reading.
No dashboards, no complex menus, no pop-ups.
If you click the UNDRSTND icon without highlighting anything, the extension will analyze the entire article you’re reading.
It quickly identifies the author’s claims, analysis, and evidence to give you a structured summary — perfect for getting the essence of long or complex pieces at a glance.

Tip
Use this when you want a high-level view before diving deeper into the details. It helps you decide what’s worth a closer read.
The core feature of UNDRSTND is as simple as it gets:
- Highlight any word, phrase, or sentence while reading.
- Click the UNDRSTND icon that's on your browser.
Within seconds, you’ll see a contextual breakdown — including definition, importance, context, and application of what you just highlighted.
This gives you a quick path from confusion to clarity without breaking focus.

Pro Tip
You can highlight anything: a single term, a sentence, or even an entire paragraph.
UNDRSTND automatically adapts the depth of its analysis based on your selection.
Once you’ve opened a definition, you’ll notice a small “Explore More” button.
Click it to go beyond the basics — you’ll see related examples, analogies, or real-world applications of the concept.
This feature turns your reading session into a learning session. It’s designed for the moments when you think, “That’s interesting, tell me more.”

You don’t need to leave the page or open a new tab — everything happens right where you’re reading.
Clicking the UNDRSTND Chrome extension icon from your browser toolbar opens the Settings Panel.
From there, you can:
- Adjust the icon placement (top, center, or bottom of the page)
- Change the personality or tone of your responses
- View or update your keyboard shortcuts

Tip
Settings let you tailor UNDRSTND to how you read — whether you prefer subtlety or visibility.
UNDRSTND shines in those “wait, what?” moments while reading online.
Here are a few examples of when to use it:
- Unfamiliar terms: Technical words, jargon, or niche vocabulary.
Example: “Metacognition,” “Marginal Utility,” “Lagrange Multiplier.” - Sentences that warrant more exploration:
When an author makes a claim or introduces a concept you want to unpack. - Hyperlinks you don’t want to click:
Stay in flow by learning what’s behind the link without losing your place. - Assumed knowledge:
Writers often reference principles or paradoxes as if you already know them.
Example: “The Ship of Theseus,” “The Law of Diminishing Returns,” “Moore’s Law.”
UNDRSTND helps you bridge those gaps instantly — so you never have to skip, guess, or break your rhythm again.
The new standard for online reading isn’t about speed — it’s about curiosity.
Now that you can understand in place, let yourself pause more often. Ask questions. Highlight what’s confusing, intriguing, or worth remembering.
Each click builds your personal map of understanding.
Over time, you’ll notice yourself reading more deeply and confidently — not because you’re working harder, but because you’re staying in flow.
“Understanding is a kind of ecstasy.”
UNDRSTND is here to make that feeling part of your everyday reading.
Here’s how to get the most out of UNDRSTND long term:
- Use it daily: Try it on one article a day. The more you use it, the more natural it feels.
- Stay intentional: Don’t highlight everything — highlight what matters or confuses you.
- Reflect briefly: After a reading session, think about what you learned or clarified.
You’ll start to see patterns — topics you explore often, ideas you revisit, concepts that connect. This is your personal comprehension fingerprint forming.
Every reader hits moments of confusion — the difference is what you do with them.
With UNDRSTND, you no longer have to skip, guess, or tab away.
You can pause, click, and understand — instantly.
